Does the entire ChefAlarm go into the oven?
No. The oven-safe probe goes into the oven inserted into your food. The display unit either sits on your countertop or magnetically affixed to your oven door. The two are connected via a thin stainless steel braided cable which is designed to slip between your oven and oven door whilst maintaining its seal. The cable is 1.2m long and is heat resistant to 370°C.
There are many buttons on the ChefAlarm. Is it easy to use?
Yes, the ChefAlarm is very easy to use. The reason for the number of buttons is because it is a thermometer and timer all in one. 4 buttons are used for the thermometer functionality allowing the high and low temperature alert levels to be set. 4 buttons are for the count-up/count-down timer. The remaining two buttons are used to adjust the volume and backlight.
Can the ChefAlarm double up as my kitchen timer?
Yes, the timer and thermometer functionality are independent.
How can I use my ChefAlarm to monitor the temperature of liquid in my saucepan?
The ChefAlarm comes with a saucepan clip that attaches your probe to the side of your saucepan or wok. It is perfect for making sure that your oil is at the correct temperature before deep-frying, controlling the temperature of your sauces or for cooking candy or sugar syrups.
I am making yoghurt. Will the ChefAlarm tell me when the temperature falls below a certain level?
Yes. The ChefAlarm is unique in that it has a low temperature alarm. Set the low temperature and it will alert you if the temperature at the probe-tip falls below that level. This feature means that it is perfect for making desserts.
Are the probes replaceable?
Yes, we sell replacement and additional probes. We find it useful to have an additional probe when cooking two different foods in the same oven. You can then choose which probe to connect to your ChefAlarm without opening the oven door.
